A new Yahoo/YouGov poll finds that 61% of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s plan to construct a ballroom at the White House, following the recent demolition of the East Wing. Only 25% expressed support for the project, while 14% were undecided. The survey, conducted October 23–27 among 1,770 adults, carries a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.

The East Wing — which previously housed offices for former First Lady Melania Trump, the White House social secretary, and the presidential theater — was demolished last week to make room for the new structure. Excavators were seen tearing down the wing earlier in the week, sparking criticism from preservation advocates and political opponents.

Despite the backlash, key Republican leaders have defended the move. “Just because President Trump has an idea, the Democrat Party’s visceral reaction is just to say no,” said House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who argued that the White House has “a history of being renovated over and over again.”

The ballroom proposal is part of Trump’s broader vision to modernize the White House complex, though opponents call it an unnecessary vanity project.
