A new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris holds an advantage over former President Donald Trump on several leadership qualities, including honesty. Nearly half of Americans say attributes like being “committed to democracy” and “disciplined” better describe Harris, compared to about 3 in 10 for Trump. Additionally, 4 in 10 view Harris as “honest,” while 24% say the same about Trump.

On the economy and immigration, however, Trump has a slight edge, with 45% of Americans trusting him more to handle these issues, compared to 38% for Harris. Independents show a stronger preference for Trump on economic matters.

Harris is perceived as stronger on issues like race and racial inequality, abortion policy, and health care, with roughly half of U.S. adults believing she would handle these issues better than Trump.

Enthusiasm among Democrats has increased with Harris as the nominee, with two-thirds expressing excitement if she were to be elected, a notable shift from their response to President Joe Biden earlier this year.
