WASHINGTON, D.C. — A new national survey suggests more Americans believe the United States has lost global influence during President Donald Trump’s second term than gained it.
According to a poll conducted by The Economist and YouGov, 52% of respondents said America’s standing in the world has deteriorated under Trump’s current administration. Twenty-nine percent said it has improved, while 12% said it has stayed the same. Seven percent were unsure.
The survey, conducted Feb. 20–23 among 1,551 adults, carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. The findings come ahead of Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address and during a period of heightened political scrutiny surrounding the administration’s foreign and domestic agenda.
Recent developments include military action targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, renewed tariff disputes, and diplomatic tension over proposals involving Greenland. The administration also faced a setback after the Supreme Court struck down much of its signature tariff policy.
Separately, polling averages compiled by Decision Desk HQ show Trump’s approval rating at 41.2%, with disapproval at 56.4%, reflecting continued public division.
