RYE, New York — Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, has filed a $250,000 negligence lawsuit against the City of Rye and Consolidated Edison, alleging unsafe conditions tied to gas-main work caused her to trip and suffer injuries last summer.
According to a complaint filed in New York state court, Pirro says she fell on Aug. 28 after tripping over a wooden block protruding from beneath a steel plate covering an excavation site related to Con Edison utility work. The filing alleges the city failed to enforce safety requirements at the site and that the hazard was not properly secured.
Pirro claims she sustained “serious personal injuries,” including bruises and contusions to her head, eye, face, and shoulder. The complaint states she was confined to bed, required medical treatment, and continues to experience pain and limitations in movement.
Attorneys for Rye and Con Edison have moved to dismiss the case. A lawyer for the city argued the location was not a designated pedestrian walkway, while Con Edison’s filing contends any risks were “open, obvious and apparent.”
Pirro, 74, previously served as Westchester County district attorney and as a state judge before her confirmation as the District of Columbia’s top federal prosecutor.
