Elon Musk is scheduled to visit the Pentagon on Friday, with conflicting reports emerging about the purpose of the meeting. The New York Times initially reported that Musk would be briefed on military plans concerning a potential war with China, citing unnamed U.S. officials.
Shortly after, President Trump and Pentagon officials denied the report. Trump stated on Truth Social that “China will not even be mentioned or discussed,” calling the claims “Fake News.” Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell also dismissed the report as “brazenly & maliciously wrong,” while praising Musk as “a patriot.”
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth clarified the meeting was informal and focused on innovation, efficiency, and smarter production — not on sensitive military plans.
Concerns have been raised over potential conflicts of interest, as Musk serves as a senior adviser to Trump while leading companies like SpaceX and Tesla, both of which have significant ties to the U.S. government and China.
