Former President Barack Obama on Sunday called for immediate action to prevent “the travesty of innocent people dying of preventable starvation” in the Gaza Strip. Linking to New York Times reports on X, Obama said aid must be allowed in and that “there is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families.”
Israel’s military, responding to growing global concern, announced a “tactical pause” in military operations to allow humanitarian aid to reach civilians. The pause follows weeks of criticism over the worsening conditions in Gaza amid ongoing conflict with Hamas.
When asked about the situation, President Trump said aid is being stolen. “They’re stealing the food, they’re stealing the money… It’s a mess,” he told reporters Sunday, blaming Hamas for obstructing aid distribution.
Israel has said it allows aid into Gaza under strict controls to avoid empowering Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused the United Nations of spreading false claims, saying secure aid corridors exist and will continue.
The Israeli military has not found conclusive evidence of Hamas systematically stealing humanitarian assistance, despite allegations.
