Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she and accompanying law enforcement officials were denied entry to the Village of Broadview Municipal Building in Illinois after requesting to use the restroom. In a video posted by commentator Benny Johnson and shared by Noem, a security guard appears to direct the group to leave. Noem said her team, including ICE agents, was preparing operations to apprehend individuals with criminal convictions when both local police and the municipal building refused access.
Noem criticized Illinois leaders, noting Broadview’s receipt of federal funds and calling the incident “shameful.” She was in Broadview Friday at an ICE facility that has drawn weeks of protests tied to “Operation Midway Blitz,” which DHS says has resulted in more than 800 arrests in Illinois. Protest turnout numbered in the low hundreds, and at least a dozen arrests were reported. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker condemned Noem’s visit in posts on X, arguing she should face public accountability for DHS actions.
