Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley urged Republicans to stop complaining about Vice President Kamala Harris potentially being the Democratic nominee and focus on defeating her in the election. Speaking to Fox News’s Bret Baier, Haley said, “Republicans should not be surprised that we are now running against Kamala Harris… Quit whining about her.”
Haley explained that she anticipated Harris replacing President Biden, which is why Harris was a central focus of her campaign. She criticized the Trump campaign for being caught off guard by Harris’s rise in polling, narrowing Trump’s lead over Biden.
Haley also mentioned that Harris has avoided major network interviews, but insisted Republicans should concentrate on her policies. “You don’t need an interview from Kamala Harris. I take her at her word,” Haley said, referencing Harris’s positions on taxes, immigration, and fracking.
Haley also advised Trump to shift his messaging from crowd sizes to substantive policy to connect with voters, particularly suburban women, college-educated individuals, independents, and conservative Democrats.
Despite her past criticism of Trump, Haley endorsed him in May, potentially bringing moderate Republicans with her.
