Governor Gavin Newsom expressed concern about the potential impact of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential bid on President Joe Biden’s reelection chances. This comes as both Biden and former President Donald Trump seek reelection, despite polls indicating voter dissatisfaction with both.

Kennedy Jr., initially planning to run as a Democrat, is working to get his name on the ballot in all states. He recently secured a place on the Michigan ballot, marking a significant step for his campaign.

In an MSNBC interview, Newsom acknowledged the potential influence of Kennedy Jr., especially if he secures a place on the ballot in more states. He also discussed the importance of seven swing states for Biden’s chances.

Newsom, who has been supporting Biden’s reelection bid, warned that Kennedy Jr. could draw votes away from Biden. However, it remains unclear whether Kennedy Jr. poses a greater threat to Biden or Trump. Despite Kennedy’s popularity as an independent candidate, his positions on certain issues may deter dissatisfied Democratic voters.
