California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday announced the state will sue President Donald Trump over his deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to quell immigration protest unrest—while Trump’s border czar Tom Homan warned that state officials, including Newsom, could face arrest if they obstruct federal enforcement.

“Come after me, arrest me. Let’s just get it over with, tough guy,” Newsom told MSNBC in response to Homan’s comments. “The hell are they doing? These guys need to grow up.”

Newsom’s lawsuit, set to be filed Monday, will challenge the federalization of California’s National Guard without state consent. “It’s an illegal act, an immoral act, an unconstitutional act,” he said, accusing Trump of “putting fuel on this fire.”

In an interview with NBC News, Homan said, “It’s a felony to impede law enforcement from doing their job,” warning that “we will ask DOJ to prosecute” if lines are crossed. He called Newsom “an embarrassment for the state.”

White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson defended the action: “President Trump rightfully stepped in to restore law and order because of Gavin Newsom’s feckless leadership.”
