Newark Mayor Ras Baraka (D) is disputing claims made by interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, who said he trespassed at the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark on Friday. Baraka, a candidate for New Jersey governor, was arrested while protesting the facility’s reopening alongside lawmakers and immigrant rights advocates.

In a viral post, Habba—a former Trump lawyer—said Baraka “ignored multiple warnings” and “chose to disregard the law.” Her statement was viewed over 2 million times.

Baraka pushed back on CNN, saying, “Not a single person… told me to leave.” He accused Habba of misrepresenting events and called her account inaccurate. “She was not there. She should get some better information,” he said.

The Delaney Hall facility, operated by GEO Group, has faced criticism over permit issues and alleged rights violations. Baraka and the city of Newark are now suing GEO.

Gov. Phil Murphy called Baraka’s arrest unnecessary. Meanwhile, Republican candidate Bill Spadea criticized Baraka for a “foolish stunt,” calling for greater state cooperation with Trump’s immigration policies.
