Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel will “stand alone” if necessary, following President Joe Biden’s threat to withhold additional weapons if Israeli forces proceed with a ground assault on Rafah, a city in southern Gaza. Netanyahu expressed this sentiment during an interview with Dr. Phil, asserting that defeating Hamas, including in Rafah, is the only option for Israel.
Biden warned that he would halt weapon shipments to Israel if its military attacked Rafah, where over a million Palestinian civilians have sought refuge. The US recently put a hold on a shipment of bombs, raising the possibility of more weapons being withheld.
Netanyahu argued that precision weapons are needed to avoid civilian casualties, even though they can still cause significant collateral damage. He claimed that Hamas is attempting to blackmail Israel to maintain its presence in Gaza and commit acts similar to a recent terror attack. Netanyahu also confirmed that his goal of retrieving hostages remains unchanged since the start of Israel’s conflict with Hamas. Despite past disagreements with Biden, Netanyahu expressed hope that they can be overcome.
