CHARLESTON, South Carolina — Rep. Nancy Mace is disputing a police report describing her as verbally abusive during an encounter with officers at Charleston International Airport, calling the document “falsified” and politically motivated. According to reporting from Yahoo News, Mace said on CNN that the October incident has been misrepresented and that no audio exists to support allegations that she called officers “idiots” or used repeated profanities.
Mace, a Republican congresswoman and candidate for South Carolina governor, insisted the newly released footage shows only her seeking help from TSA. She said parts of the incident report were inaccurate and suggested the controversy may be a “political hit job” tied to Attorney General Alan Wilson. Pressed by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about specific profane insults attributed to her, Mace denied using the terms and said airport law enforcement was not present during her initial frustration over delays and safety concerns stemming from death threats she receives.
The report, however, claims Mace upset airport employees during what officers described as a tantrum following a miscommunication. While acknowledging she often uses vulgar language in general, Mace said she has never called anyone an “idiot.” Shortly after the interview, she corrected herself on social media, noting she once referred to Rep. Rashida Tlaib as “Iran’s useful idiot” in 2024.
Mace maintains she supports law enforcement and argues the official account does not match what occurred.
