Elon Musk told members of Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party that there is “too much focus on past guilt” regarding the Holocaust. His remarks came days after scholars and rights groups alleged he performed a Nazi salute during a public appearance.

Musk’s statements, made during a virtual address to cheering AfD members, denounced multiculturalism and defended German heritage. “Children should not be guilty of the sins of their great-grandparents,” he said. Jewish organizations in the U.S. condemned his comments, with the Jewish Council for Public Affairs calling Musk “a shameless antisemite.”

Musk has faced repeated backlash for Nazi-related “jokes” and failing to prevent pro-Nazi content on X. The controversy coincides with Germany’s upcoming snap elections, where AfD, a far-right party, has gained prominence.

Holocaust remembrance events on Monday will mark Auschwitz’s liberation, with survivors warning of rising antisemitism.
