Elon Musk is threatening to fund primary challengers against Republicans who voted for President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” calling it fiscally reckless. “They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do,” Musk said. He’s also backing Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), the bill’s most prominent GOP critic.
The Tesla CEO further leaned into his feud with Trump on Independence Day, launching a poll on X asking whether he should create a new political party, the “America Party.” “Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” he wrote.
Musk suggested the party could focus on flipping a few House and Senate seats to wield leverage in Congress.
Trump has responded by threatening to deport Musk and suggested using his Department of Government Efficiency to investigate him. Musk previously served in the administration before stepping down in May.
Despite past support for Trump, Musk now calls the legislation a “disgusting abomination.” Trump, meanwhile, signed the bill Friday, calling it “promises made, promises kept.”
