Elon Musk awarded two $1 million checks at a Sunday event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, after the state’s Supreme Court declined to block the giveaway. The event occurred just two days before a pivotal Wisconsin Supreme Court election that could shift ideological control of the court.
Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul (D) had sued Musk, arguing the move violated state law prohibiting gifts in exchange for votes. The lawsuit cited Musk’s now-deleted post on X stating he would “personally hand over” $2 million to two voters who had already cast ballots in the court election. Musk later clarified that entry to the event was limited to people who signed a petition opposing “activist judges.”
The Wisconsin Supreme Court, which currently has a 4-3 liberal majority, unanimously declined to hear the case, issuing no explanation.
Wearing a cheesehead hat, Musk told attendees the event was vital. “Everybody’s got to mobilize everywhere like crazy for the next 48 hours,” he said. “This will be important for the future of civilization.”
