Elon Musk sparked political intrigue Thursday by posting a poll on X asking whether the U.S. needs a new political party to challenge both Republicans and Democrats. The move came amid a heated public fallout with Donald Trump, who expressed “disappointment” over Musk’s vocal opposition to the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill.”

Trump, speaking from the Oval Office, accused Musk of turning on the bill because it eliminates electric vehicle tax credits and suggested the billionaire missed the privileges of White House access. Musk responded sharply, calling Trump “ungrateful” and claiming he was pivotal to Trump’s 2024 victory.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” Musk tweeted, warning Republicans: “Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years.”

Tesla shares dropped nearly 6% amid the feud, which could jeopardize the GOP’s alliance with Musk, who contributed over $250 million to help elect Trump and briefly led the Department of Government Efficiency.
