Elon Musk privately phoned Donald Trump Monday night to express regret over a series of public posts attacking the president, according to two sources familiar with the conversation, ABC News reported.

On Wednesday morning, Musk posted on X: “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far,” though he didn’t specify which statements he was walking back.

Last week, Musk criticized Trump’s “ingratitude” over the 2024 election, called for his impeachment, attacked his “big, beautiful bill,” and suggested Trump appeared in the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Sources say Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles urged Musk in recent days to de-escalate tensions. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Wednesday that Trump “acknowledged the statement… and is appreciative of it.”

Trump had previously told ABC’s Jonathan Karl that Musk was “a man who has lost his mind.” Despite the harsh rhetoric, Speaker Mike Johnson said he expects reconciliation “soon.”
