A majority of House Republicans are skipping in-person town halls during Congress’ two-week Easter and Passover recess, opting to remain absent from their home districts amid ongoing public discontent over government cuts and economic pressure.

While a few Republicans, such as Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), have scheduled town halls, both events are restricted to residents of their districts. The broader GOP strategy appears to reflect an internal effort to avoid confrontational public forums, following past incidents of vocal dissent and protests.

Meanwhile, Democrats are continuing a high-visibility push in red and swing districts. Over the past three weeks, Democratic lawmakers have held more than 70 town halls in multiple states, including a Tucson event led by Rep. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.), Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), and former Rep. Gabby Giffords.

Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) and Rep. Derrick Van Orden (R-Wis.) have faced criticism for not holding public town halls, with Van Orden claiming outside agitators would disrupt such events.
