Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has endorsed Aaron Dimmock, a former naval aviator and primary challenger to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.). This comes amid an ongoing feud and House Ethics Committee investigation into Gaetz. McCarthy likened Gaetz to Hunter Biden, criticizing his alleged misconduct while praising Dimmock’s credentials and conservative values.
Gaetz responded by labeling Dimmock as “Missouri-Based” and a “DEI Enthusiast,” referencing Dimmock’s support for diversity and the Black Lives Matter movement. Gaetz dismissed McCarthy’s criticisms, pointing to rumors about McCarthy’s personal life.
Dimmock is the sole challenger to Gaetz in the upcoming Aug. 20 primary. The feud between McCarthy and Gaetz escalated after Gaetz led an effort to oust McCarthy from the Speakership last fall, which Gaetz insists was not personal.
