Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) signaled a willingness to negotiate with Democrats over health care funding during the ongoing government shutdown, breaking with Republican leadership. In a lengthy post on X, Greene said she is “absolutely disgusted” that health insurance premiums could double if Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits expire this year.

While reaffirming opposition to extending benefits for immigrants without legal status, Greene said she supports action to prevent premiums from rising. “When the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to double,” she wrote.

Greene criticized Republican leaders for failing to address health care costs, arguing the party should focus on helping Americans rather than funding foreign wars.

President Donald Trump also expressed brief openness to a deal on ACA subsidies before walking back the comments, saying Democrats must first agree to reopen the government.

According to KFF, ACA enrollees could see premiums increase by more than 75% if the credits expire at year’s end.
