A new J.L. Partners-Daily Mail poll shows that 54% of registered voters believe Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should resign after he shared sensitive details of a U.S. airstrike in an unsecured Signal chat that included The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg.

Among Republicans, 38% support Hegseth stepping down, while 33% say he should remain. Another 29% were unsure. A majority of independents (54%) also called for his resignation. Only 22% of overall respondents said Hegseth should stay.

The poll follows Goldberg’s disclosure that he was added to a Signal chat with Hegseth, Vice President Vance, and national security adviser Mike Waltz. Hegseth reportedly shared specific details about a planned strike on the Houthis in Yemen. The administration denies sharing classified information.

Democrats have called for Hegseth and Waltz to resign and for criminal probes into the matter, citing federal records laws. Nearly half of Americans (47%) also say Waltz should resign.

President Trump defended both men, saying Hegseth “had nothing to do with it.”
