Washington, D.C. — A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds that public support for U.S. military strikes on Iran remains limited, with only 27% of Americans approving of the action.
The survey of 1,282 U.S. adults, conducted beginning Saturday after the strikes were launched, showed 43% disapproved and 29% said they were unsure. The findings reflect broad skepticism about expanded military engagement in the Middle East.
Partisan divides were pronounced. According to the poll, 87% of Democrats and 60% of independents said President Donald Trump is too willing to use military force. Among Republicans, support was stronger but not overwhelming, with 40% expressing trust in Trump’s handling of military decisions. Overall, 56% of respondents said Trump is too quick to deploy force abroad.
The Trump administration has defended the strikes as necessary to address what it described as imminent threats posed by Iran’s military and nuclear infrastructure. The action follows weeks of escalating tensions and diplomatic breakdowns between Washington and Tehran.
Congress is expected to consider a war powers resolution this week as lawmakers debate the scope of presidential authority. Reuters also reported that more than 200 people were killed and over 700 wounded in the broader conflict, including three American service members.
