Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro challenged Elon Musk to a fight on national television after the Tesla CEO accused Maduro of election fraud, a challenge which Musk accepted.
Following the contentious results of Venezuela’s presidential election, where both Maduro and his opponent claimed victory, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to accuse Maduro of “major election fraud.” In a series of posts, Musk called for Maduro to step down, claiming the opposition had won a “crushing victory.”
Maduro responded by labeling Musk a threat to Venezuela and, in a surprising turn, challenged him to a fight on national TV. “Do you want to fight? Let’s do it. Elon Musk, I’m ready,” Maduro declared.
By Wednesday afternoon, Musk replied to a tweet about the challenge with a simple, “I accept.”
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council, aligned with Maduro, declared him the winner with 51% of the vote, despite exit polls favoring the opposition. The Carter Center reported it could not verify the election results due to a lack of transparency.
Maduro’s challenge to Musk adds to the tech mogul’s history of public confrontations, including a proposed fight with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
