French President Emmanuel Macron rejected Donald Trump‘s suggestion that Russian President Vladimir Putin could mediate in the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. During a visit to Greenland, Macron said Russia has no credibility to act as a peace broker, citing its “high-intensity conflict” in Ukraine and violations of the UN Charter.

Trump floated the idea in an ABC News interview, suggesting Putin could help broker peace. Macron firmly disagreed, saying, “I do not believe that Russia… can be a mediator.”

The remarks came during Macron’s symbolic trip to Greenland, where he also warned against “predatory ambition” targeting the Arctic island—referencing past annexation talk from Trump. He emphasized diplomacy over confrontation and reaffirmed France’s commitment to international norms.

Macron also said France had no involvement in recent Israeli strikes on Iran and expressed support for NATO and traditional Western alliances.
