Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry announced plans to fully raise the “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) flag at the governor’s mansion during President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, inviting residents to do the same. Landry declared the event as the beginning of a “renaissance” for the nation, emphasizing a return to prioritizing America and its citizens.
Landry’s decision coincides with similar moves by governors in GOP-led states like Florida, North Dakota, and Iowa, who ordered U.S. flags raised to full-staff for the ceremony despite ongoing mourning for former President Jimmy Carter and victims of the recent New Orleans terrorist attack. Louisiana flags, initially lowered after the January 1 attack that killed 14, will be briefly raised before returning to half-staff post-inauguration.
House Speaker Mike Johnson also announced Capitol Hill flags would follow a similar schedule.
