Former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney will appear alongside Democratic nominee Kamala Harris at a campaign event in Wisconsin on Thursday. Cheney, a staunch critic of Donald Trump and a key figure in the investigation of the January 6 Capitol attack, lost her House seat in 2022 to a Trump-backed candidate. Cheney endorsed Harris last month.

The two will speak at a historic schoolhouse in Ripon, where the Republican Party was founded in 1854. Harris is targeting moderate voters in key battleground states, including Wisconsin and Michigan, as Trump campaigns in Michigan the same day.

This unusual alliance highlights Cheney’s break from her party and her disapproval of Trump’s election fraud claims. Harris aims to appeal to independent and conservative voters unsettled by Trump’s refusal to concede the 2020 election.

Trump will hold a rally in Saginaw County, Michigan, where Biden narrowly won in 2020. Both candidates are focusing on Michigan and Wisconsin, crucial states in the 2024 election.
