Former Republican Rep. Liz Cheney announced her support for Vice President Kamala Harris and plans to campaign in battleground states to defeat Donald Trump and election-denying candidates. Speaking at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin, Cheney also endorsed Rep. Colin Allred (D-Texas) in his Senate race against Sen. Ted Cruz.
Cheney emphasized the importance of electing “serious people” and defeating candidates who promote falsehoods about the 2020 election. Her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, also confirmed he will vote for Harris, stating Trump “can never be trusted with power again.”
While not officially tied to the Harris campaign, Cheney will continue her efforts to counter Trump’s influence through her PAC, “Our Great Task,” which has previously targeted GOP election deniers. She warned voters against simply writing in other candidates, stressing the need to unify against the “grave threat” posed by Trump.
Cheney was ousted from Congress in 2022 after refusing to back down from her criticisms of Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
