Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) criticized former President Trump’s recent comments on social media, describing his remarks as dictator-like and alleging he uses threats against opponents. In a post on X, Cheney wrote, “This is how dictators destroy free nations. They threaten those who speak against them with death.” She added that America should not be led by someone “petty, vindictive, cruel, [and] unstable” with tyrannical ambitions.
Cheney’s statement follows Trump’s comments in Arizona, where he called her “a radical war hawk” and mocked her with a hypothetical scenario involving a gun aimed at her, saying, “Let’s see how she feels about it.” Trump’s remarks also targeted Cheney’s father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, for endorsing Vice President Harris, whom Liz Cheney supports in 2024.
Cheney, a vocal Trump critic who voted for his impeachment and served on the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, lost her 2022 re-election to Trump-endorsed candidate Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.). Trump also brought up Cheney’s father during a Michigan rally, accusing him of promoting anti-Muslim policies, stating, “Kamala is campaigning with Muslim-hating warmonger, Liz Cheney,” and blaming the elder Cheney for “killing millions of Arabs” through Middle East interventions.
