Lara Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, announced she will step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC) at its next meeting, fueling speculation about her potential appointment to a Senate vacancy.
In a post on X, Lara highlighted her success at the RNC, achieving record fundraising, strengthening election integrity measures, and boosting early voter turnout. Her departure aligns with rumors she may replace Republican Sen. Marco Rubio, who is expected to be nominated for secretary of state. Lara said last month she would “strongly consider” serving in another role if asked.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who will choose Rubio’s replacement, is reportedly in discussions with Donald Trump about the decision. DeSantis is also under consideration to replace Pete Hegseth, whose nomination for defense secretary faces opposition due to allegations of misconduct, which Hegseth denies.
