Lara Trump, the former president’s daughter-in-law, has declared her intention to dedicate her efforts towards Donald Trump’s election if she wins the position of co-chair at the Republican National Committee (RNC). In an interview with Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt, Lara Trump, endorsed by the former president, emphasized fiscal responsibility, vowing not to spend excessively on non-essential items, contrasting previous RNC expenditures like the reported $70,000 on flowers.
The RNC is currently in a period of transition, with speculation about the incumbent chair Ronna McDaniel stepping down following a New York Times report. McDaniel, however, has not confirmed her resignation, with an RNC spokesperson stating that any decisions will be made post-South Carolina primary. Donald Trump has shown strong support for Lara Trump, praising her communication skills and dedication to the MAGA movement. He also endorsed Michael Whatley, the North Carolina Republican Party chairman, for RNC chair.
The RNC faces financial scrutiny, reporting lower bank balances in recent years, with current spending money significantly less than what was reported in the year Donald Trump was elected. Meanwhile, Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, shared critical remarks about the Trump family’s view of Lara Trump in the past, highlighting personal dynamics within the family.
Decisions on the RNC’s leadership will follow the South Carolina primary on February 24, where party members will vote on their next chair, pending McDaniel’s potential departure.
