Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass sharply criticized Vice President Vance, calling his comments about the city’s protests “100 percent lies.” The vice president visited Los Angeles to support Marines deployed during the recent anti-ICE demonstrations.

“He comes in, makes all these statements about what is not happening in LA, then insults the senator he serves with… it was just disrespectful,” Bass said.

Vance defended President Trump’s decision to send in the National Guard, calling the protests “riots” and blaming Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom for encouraging unrest. His comments followed a federal court ruling that upheld Trump’s authority to deploy troops without state approval. Newsom had sued over the issue.

During his remarks, Vance also misnamed Sen. Alex Padilla as “Jose Padilla,” prompting backlash. Padilla responded, “He knows my name,” calling the error a sign of the administration’s “pettiness.”

Democrats say the misnaming was deliberate, citing Vance’s mocking tone and referencing a recent DHS press event where Padilla was forcibly removed despite identifying himself.
