Electric vehicles (EVs) have gained significant momentum, overcoming political obstacles from critics like Donald Trump, said Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear. The Democratic governor highlighted the thousands of EV-related jobs created nationwide, including in rural GOP areas, emphasizing their importance over political rhetoric.
In Kentucky, EV companies have announced nearly $12 billion in investments and over 10,200 jobs since mid-2020. This includes a major project producing batteries for Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles. Beshear dismissed anti-EV attacks as attempts to divide people, asserting that the EV industry is inevitable and Kentucky will lead this evolution.
The emergence of EVs is a key issue in the presidential campaign, with President Joe Biden supporting them as part of his clean-energy agenda, while Trump opposes them as government overreach. Despite political resistance, Beshear remains confident in the EV sector’s growth and its potential to provide substantial employment and investment opportunities.
Recent polls show skepticism towards EVs, with only 4 in 10 U.S. adults likely to consider purchasing one. However, Beshear views this as a positive sign, predicting increased support over time. Kentucky is also expanding its EV charging infrastructure, further supporting the sector’s growth and addressing range anxiety concerns.
