In her first solo TV interview since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris positioned herself as a candidate of change, contrasting her leadership style with President Joe Biden’s by offering “a new generation of leadership.” Harris, running against Republican Donald Trump, criticized his divisive leadership, saying, “people are exhausted” by the hate and division stemming from his approach.

Harris also expressed support for a ban on assault weapons, noting that she is a gun owner who supports Second Amendment rights. She further outlined her policy focus, including expanding the child tax credit to $6,000 for the first year of a child’s life.

When asked about Trump’s appeal, Harris highlighted her efforts to unite Americans and noted that some Republican figures, such as Liz and Dick Cheney, are backing her due to dissatisfaction with Trump. Harris campaigned in Pennsylvania on Friday and has promised to increase media appearances in the coming weeks.
