A federal judge denied President-elect Trump’s request to expedite his lawsuit against journalist Bob Woodward over the sale of audio recordings from interviews for Woodward’s 2020 book, Rage. Judge Paul Gardephe stated discovery would not proceed until a pending motion to dismiss the case is resolved.
The lawsuit, filed in January 2023, acknowledges Trump consented to the interviews and recordings but alleges Woodward and his publisher, Simon & Schuster, were unauthorized to sell the audio separately. Trump seeks $49 million in damages.
Trump’s legal team emphasized renewed efforts to hold media accountable post-election, referencing a settlement from ABC News and George Stephanopoulos. The defendants’ motion to dismiss has been under review for nearly a year.
