Montana Rep. Zooey Zephyr cannot return to the state Legislature, a judge ruled, after the transgender lawmaker’s Republican colleagues barred her from participating in floor debates over her actions against a bill banning gender-affirming care for minors, which they said broke decorum.
Judge Mike Menahan, of Montana’s First Judicial District Court, on Tuesday denied a request to temporarily block officials from keeping Ms. Zephyr off the House floor for the remainder of this session, which is scheduled to end Friday. Judge Menahan said the request would require the court “to interfere with legislative authority in a manner that exceeds this Court’s authority.”
