A federal judge on Friday raised serious concerns after allegations surfaced that the Trump administration deported a 2-year-old U.S. citizen to Honduras without “meaningful process.”

U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty, a Trump appointee, confirmed the child had been deported alongside her mother and sister after the mother was found to be in the country illegally. Doughty scheduled a hearing for May 16 to investigate the incident, stating he had a “strong suspicion” that the government deported a U.S. citizen improperly.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials claim the mother requested that her daughter remain with her. However, Doughty noted the court has not independently verified the mother’s wishes, and officials said they could not contact her after her release in Honduras.

The case follows broader scrutiny over wrongful deportations under Trump’s immigration policies, including the mistaken deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
