A federal judge on Friday ordered the liquidation of Alex Jones’ personal assets but dismissed the bankruptcy case of his company, Free Speech Systems, leaving the future of his Infowars platform uncertain. Jones owes $1.5 billion for his false claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax.

Judge Christopher Lopez approved converting Jones’ personal bankruptcy reorganization to a liquidation while dismissing the reorganization attempt for Free Speech Systems. The Sandy Hook families had requested that the company also be liquidated, which would have resulted in Jones losing control of the company, its assets, and social media accounts. Instead, the company’s future remains undecided, potentially leaving it operational as efforts to collect the debt proceed in Texas and Connecticut courts.

Jones has approximately $9 million in personal assets, excluding exempt items like his primary residence. He has begun liquidating assets, including a $2.8 million Texas ranch, to pay his debts. Free Speech Systems has about $6 million in cash and $1.2 million in inventory.

The judge’s decision focuses on the best interests of the company and its creditors, including the Sandy Hook families. Despite Jones’ warnings to his audience about the imminent shutdown of Infowars, the dismissal of the company’s bankruptcy case means it could continue operating while state courts handle debt collection. Alternatively, the families’ lawyers might seek liquidation through Jones’ personal bankruptcy proceedings.

Jones and his company filed for bankruptcy in 2022 following defamation lawsuit judgments totaling over $1.4 billion in Connecticut and $49 million in Texas, awarded to the families of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting victims. The families, who faced harassment from Jones’ followers due to his hoax claims, sought the liquidation to prevent Jones from causing further harm.

The judge’s ruling underscores the complexity of the bankruptcy and debt collection process in this high-profile case. Jones has publicly decried the lawsuits and continued to make controversial statements, though he has acknowledged the reality of the Sandy Hook shooting. The Sandy Hook families continue to pursue additional legal action against Jones, accusing him of hiding assets.
