A U.S. District Court has authorized four employees from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access the Treasury Department’s Bureau of the Fiscal Service, which oversees trillions in federal transactions. Judge Jeannette Vargas ruled that the Donald Trump administration no longer needs court approval for each new DOGE staffer granted access.
“There is little utility in having this Court function as Treasury’s de facto human resources officer,” Vargas stated. The decision follows a prior injunction triggered by concerns from 19 Democratic attorneys general, who sued in February to block DOGE from accessing Treasury systems without strict oversight.
Judge Vargas initially withheld access until DOGE addressed security risks through onboarding and training. After compliance, she approved one employee’s access in April and has since authorized three more. The expansion comes with Democratic AGs’ conditional support, requiring rigorous training for DOGE staff.
The case highlights ongoing partisan tensions over the Trump-era department’s growing influence on federal financial infrastructure.
