On ABC’s This Week, Ohio Senator JD Vance defended former President Donald Trump’s false claims about FEMA’s response to Hurricane Helene. Trump had accused the federal government of diverting FEMA resources to migrants and neglecting Republican areas, which FEMA denied on a webpage created to debunk the misinformation.

Vance argued that Trump’s comments reflect frustration with the response, particularly in hard-hit areas of North Carolina, though he admitted no malice was intended. FEMA clarified that no disaster relief funds were diverted and that aid is provided without bias. Trump’s statements were also criticized by Vice President Kamala Harris for spreading disinformation.

Hurricane Helene has resulted in over 250 deaths and numerous reunification requests as survivors seek assistance.
