Roughly two dozen protesters were arrested Monday inside Trump Tower in Manhattan as demonstrations against Donald Trump‘s immigration policies spread across the country. Members of Rise and Resist entered the building, denouncing what they called “illegal kidnappings and deportations of immigrants with due process.” The NYPD confirmed trespassing charges are expected.
The New York protests coincided with demonstrations in at least a dozen cities, including Los Angeles, where protests have continued for four days. Hundreds also rallied in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Chicago, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.
In Santa Ana, California, police deployed tear gas to disperse crowds. In Austin, police issued warnings as streets filled with demonstrators.
The protests also rallied around David Huerta, president of SEIU California, who was arrested during a worksite raid Friday and released Monday. Over 30 events were held in solidarity with him.
Meanwhile, Trump has ordered the deployment of 2,000 additional California National Guard troops, bringing the total in Los Angeles to 4,000. Marines are also assisting federal agents as part of the administration’s expanded immigration crackdown.
