Hong Kong’s postal service will stop accepting air mail items containing goods bound for the United States starting April 27, citing new U.S. tariffs and what it called “unreasonable and bullying acts” by the Trump administration.

The move follows the administration’s decision to end the “de minimis” exemption for postal items from Hong Kong and impose new tariffs beginning May 2. Hong Kong Post said it would not collect tariffs on behalf of the U.S. and will suspend service for affected items. Mail containing documents only will not be impacted.

The announcement comes amid escalating trade tensions, with the U.S. imposing a 145% tariff on Chinese goods and China responding with a 125% levy. Hong Kong is now subject to the same trade measures as mainland China.

Hong Kong Post will refund postage for unshipped items and begin returning them to senders starting April 22.
