Vice President Kamala Harris told reporters on Sunday that she considers herself the underdog in the upcoming election against former President Donald Trump, even though national polling shows her slightly ahead. According to a CBS News/YouGov poll, Harris leads Trump by 3 points nationally, with 51% to Trump’s 48%. In battleground states, both are tied at 50%. Harris acknowledged the poll but maintained, “I very much consider us the underdog. We have a lot of work to do to earn the vote of the American people.”
Harris made the remarks during a bus tour in Pennsylvania, part of her campaign efforts with Gov. Tim Walz. She is set to formally accept the Democrats’ nomination at the Democratic National Convention this week. Her rise in polls comes after President Biden exited the 2024 race and endorsed her.
