Republican lawmakers are urging the Department of Justice to indict former CIA Director John Brennan for allegedly making false statements to Congress about the Steele dossier during investigations into the 2016 Russia collusion probe. The dossier, compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, contained unverified claims about Donald Trump’s campaign and alleged Russian ties.

Retired FBI special agent Jody Weis said Brennan misled lawmakers by claiming the CIA was uninvolved and that he had not seen the dossier until after the 2016 election. However, congressional investigators reportedly found evidence that Brennan reviewed and analyzed the dossier beforehand and pushed to include portions of it in the Intelligence Community Assessment (ICA) on Russian interference.

Weis cited an internal email in which Brennan wrote that the dossier “warrants inclusion” despite opposition from senior analysts. He added that Brennan’s referral to the DOJ for criminal prosecution, along with former FBI Director James Comey’s indictment, shows the Trump administration intends to hold former Obama-era officials accountable for the handling of the Russia investigation.
