A new Gallup survey released Friday shows a dramatic rise in public support for immigration, with 79% of U.S. adults now saying it is good for the country, the highest level ever recorded by the pollster. Just 17% said immigration is bad for the U.S., down from 32% in 2024.

The shift in perception is largely driven by Republican voters, where support for reducing immigration has dropped 40 points, from 88% last year to 48% now. Similar declines were seen among independents (from 51% to 30%) and Democrats (from 28% to 16%).

Nearly 4 in 10 respondents said immigration should remain at current levels, while 26% favored an increase. Only 30% want reductions — a significant drop from 55% in 2024.

The poll also found 78% of Americans now support a pathway to citizenship for immigrants, an 8-point rise from last year.

Support for immigration enforcement policies has dipped. Favorability toward increasing Border Patrol staffing fell 17 points to 59%, and support for expanding the southern border wall dropped from 54% to 45%.

The survey was conducted June 2–26 among 1,402 adults with a margin of error of ±4%.
