Former President Donald Trump was abruptly rushed off the stage with blood on his head and ear after shots were fired minutes into his rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. Trump, currently safe and expected to survive, was about six minutes into his speech when he reached for his face as popping sounds echoed. Secret Service agents quickly surrounded and escorted him off stage, while he pumped his fists in the air, eliciting cheers from the crowd.
Reporters on the scene initially mistook the sounds for fireworks before realizing the severity of the situation. Attendees screamed as the chaotic scene unfolded. Law enforcement officials are investigating whether two other individuals in the crowd were also shot. The threat has been contained, and Trump was taken to a local medical facility for evaluation.
Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, thanked law enforcement and first responders for their swift action, confirming the former president is fine. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and other political figures have been briefed on the incident. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson condemned the attack as a “horrific act of political violence.”
