EMA Administrator Deanne Criswell condemned misinformation about the agency’s funding, calling Donald Trump’s false claims that money meant for hurricane relief was used for undocumented immigrants a “truly dangerous narrative.” On ABC’s “This Week,” Criswell said, “It’s frankly ridiculous, and just plain false,” adding that such rhetoric hinders FEMA’s mission to assist those affected by disasters.
Trump and Sen. JD Vance have claimed that FEMA resources were diverted, but Criswell emphasized that FEMA has all necessary resources and continues to work with state and local officials. These statements are part of a broader set of conspiracy theories, including claims that Hurricane Helene was used for ulterior motives like lithium mining or political targeting, ideas also dismissed by FEMA.
In a CBS interview, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) rejected the notion that immigration issues have affected relief efforts in his state, stating, “We have the resources that we need.”
