The FBI shut down its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office in December 2024, according to a statement provided to Fox News Digital. The agency did not disclose the reason for the closure. FBI Director Christopher Wray, who established the office in 2012 to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace, announced his resignation ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. Trump has selected Kash Patel as Wray’s successor.
Republicans in Congress, including Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), have criticized DEI initiatives, arguing they divert resources from public safety. Blackburn previously questioned the FBI’s priorities following an attack in New Orleans, claiming DEI efforts endangered public safety.
President Joe Biden, early in his term, issued an executive order promoting DEI across federal agencies, emphasizing equity and respect in the workplace. The closure signals a potential policy shift under the incoming administration.
