President Donald Trump departed Washington, D.C. on Friday without securing a deal for Ukrainian natural resources, but he did take back property confiscated by the FBI during the 2022 Mar-a-Lago search.

Boxes containing documents and personal belongings were loaded onto Air Force One before Trump’s return to Florida. White House communications director Steven Cheung confirmed, “The FBI is giving the President his property back that was taken during the unlawful and illegal raids.”

The 2022 search, part of the classified documents investigation, resulted in the seizure of 33 boxes from Trump’s Palm Beach estate, including classified materials. Trump later sued the Justice Department for $100 million, claiming the raid was malicious prosecution and election interference.

Alina Habba, counselor to the president, posted on X that she personally loaded the boxes onto Air Force One, declaring, “Justice has been and will continue to be restored under President Trump.”

The Mar-a-Lago case was dismissed in July 2024 after a federal judge ruled that Special Counsel Jack Smith had been unlawfully appointed.
