The FBI announced Monday it is investigating allegations that sensitive documents from the Trump campaign were stolen in a cyber intrusion, just days after the campaign claimed it had been hacked by Iran.

In a brief statement, the FBI confirmed, “We can confirm the FBI is investigating this matter.” The Trump campaign did not provide specific evidence of Iran’s involvement. However, the claim followed a report from Microsoft detailing foreign agents’ attempts to interfere in the 2024 U.S. campaign, including an Iranian military intelligence unit sending a spear-phishing email to a high-ranking official in June.

Iran’s mission to the United Nations denied involvement when questioned about the Trump campaign’s claim.
